Miss November rocks out

October 25th, 2008

Previously working for Activision, publisher of the hugely successful video game franchise Guitar Hero, Grace Kim has recently graced the cover of Playboy’s November issue.

Not just a pretty face, Grace can also belt out some serious tunes via Guitar Hero and Rock Band. Plus, she also owns four consoles; a Playstation 3, Playstation 2, Xbox 360 and Xbox.

Read her full interview here. If your eyes get tired from all the text, commence drooling at her pictorial and video NOW.

Engrossed

October 24th, 2008

As usual, sorry for my lack of posts lately, I’ve had other matters that needed more of my attention than I previously thought.

I’ve been working on a netcast (I hate the term ‘podcast’) with the guys from New Enthusiast and so far, things are working out really well. We’ve done a few test runs so far to see how the format works and if we can fine tune any of the sections. I’m hoping that we can put our first live netcast in a few weeks, so I will definitely link the details here once it is completed.

I’ve still been keeping tabs on what is going on in the world of gaming (of course!) but just haven’t really had much time to discuss topics here. Somehow, this shirt is rather apt at the moment.

But here are just some things that have captured my attention-

Pac-Man hoodie

October 8th, 2008

Received my monthly email newsletter from ThinkGeek today, and saw this sweet Pac-Man hoodie available for sale.

*shivers* Do. Wants.
Someone hold me.

This would go well with a new t-shirt design I also saw today, the Vicious Gobbler. Combined with other old favourites, the Pac-Man kicks and the Plush-Head. The full Pac-Man ensemble.

I don’t care if Summer is coming up and this is overkill, this piece of fantastic fabric would be a keeper until next Winter.

Did someone mention cake? Mmmmmmm, I will definitely have my cake and eat it too.

Update: i am 8-bit ‘08

October 6th, 2008

Just a quick update to my previous post about this years show, i am 8-bit 2008.

The organisers have teamed up with Paper Tiger and provided some of the artworks in print form. The above image is taken from a series called, “Great Showdowns (of the 8-bit era),” featuring characters from the Ghosts n’ Goblins game.

I’m looking forward to some of the other prints becoming available, the full i am 8-bit gallery is located here. If I can’t get the original artwork, a print may just have to suffice.

Pussycat Dolls = WTF?

October 5th, 2008

I just have to share this press release I received not too long ago… my WTF meter went off the scale when I read the following-

Xbox Australia and Universal Music Australia today announced an exclusive live event with The Pussycat Dolls on the northern broadwalk of the Sydney Opera House. The event is the first in a series entitled Xbox Sounds, which will see music artists performing throughout the summer at iconic Australian locations exclusively for Xbox.

Xbox Sounds will take place between October 2008 and April 2009 and is set to energise Australian music fans this summer. Tickets to each event will be free, offered through competitions and promotions in the lead-up to each performance.

“The Xbox Sounds series is going to be huge”, said David McLean, Regional Director, Entertainment Devices Division. “We’ve lined up some brilliant artists to perform at the events. With the worlds of music and gaming becoming increasingly connected, Xbox is in an ideal position to work in partnership with Universal Music and Tourism Australia to secure some of our country’s most amazing landmarks as unforgettable backdrops for these events.”

“The Pussycat Dolls are the biggest girl band in the world right now and to have them in Australia and performing at the Sydney Opera House is sensational. I couldn’t imagine a better way for everyone in Australia to celebrate the launch of the Dolls fantastic new album Doll Domination, in conjunction with the launch of Xbox Sounds from our friends at Microsoft”, says George Ash, Managing Director of Universal Music Australia.

Seriously… What. The. Fuck.

It stinks of ill-informed executives getting together in the local park over a shabs pipe, when suddenly one of them has a brain explosion and this travesty was the result. I understand that these woman may hold some sway in the music industry with their pre-packaged pop music, but gaming? C’mon… what do these trollops have to do with video games? I could understand the tie-in if, for example, these concerts show-cased bands that featured in some of the Microsoft titles. But, no. They had to get these retards to kick off the festival.

Finally, right down the bottom of the release, it dawned on me what the tie-in was-

The Pussycat Dolls will also take time to experience the new Xbox 360 title Lips, a brand new singing title launching on the console in December.

Initially, I was that enraged that I was considering turning up to throw rocks at them whilst they were on stage. But the rage has subsided since first reading the release and wouldn’t want to give them the pleasure of looking like I was a rabid fan, specifically there just for the music.

I don’t care how hot they look, this sort of shit undermines gaming in this country, whichever way you look at it.
